HISTORY OF FIRE CHIEFS
Fire Chiefs were elected by popular vote of the Fire Department membership from 1949 to 1999. Fire Chiefs were elected and served until resignation or removal.
In 1999 a minimum qualification standard was along with fire year terms. Once elected by the membership, the Towns of Dayton and Lyman then appointed that individual as the Town Fire Chief with a radio designation of "800".
In 1995 the Fire Chief's radio call-sign changed to "Car 1".
In January 2012 the first Full-Time Fire Chief position was created by the Towns of Dayton and Lyman when the department transitioned from private to municipal.
In November 2014, the Fire Chief's radio call-sign changed to "Chief 8-1".
